GLU-Cu (Copper Gluconate)​

Glu-Cu is a copper deficiency corrector as well as essential nutrient containing a compound of proteins (plastocyanines/peroxidases/multi-proteins). It reinforces the plant’s immune system and intervenes in different enzymatic systems relating to the generation of phytoalexins and lignin. Furthermore, it plays a significant role in processes such as photosynthesis and respiration.

The copper acts in enzymatic processes and catalyzes different processes in the plant’s enzymes. In addition, it is a component in the generation of key proteins, such as plastocyanines involved in the transfer of electrons, peroxidases oxidizing monophenol into diphenol, and multi-Cu proteins acting as oxidases (Sandermann et Borger 1983). The protein Cytochrome oxidase has Cu-Fe and catalyzes the final oxidation step in the mitochondria.

It is important to note that the lack of Cu inhibits the growth of the plant. The copper’s action against bacteria and nocive fungi is widely recognized, due to the direct toxicity of Cu. However, it also strengthens the plants’ resistance and affects the virulence of pathogens.
